(Lemon helps with cleaning, the other oils are
antiseptic - and all smell lovely!)

Mix and put into a spray bottle. Pour 200g sugar and 50g water into a large saucepan. On medium heat,
twirl the pot around and caramelise the sugar until a dark golden colour.

2. Add the boiling water, the kilo sugar and lemon slices.

3. On low heat boil for 45 minutes until thick (stir it ocassionally if you
must or leave it alone to do its own thing).

4. Cool and pour into sterilised jars or bottles. Label and store in a cool
place.

Tip

1. The syrup when hot will always look watery but will thicken when cooled.

2. If you find after cooling the syrup is not thick enough, don't panic -
boil it again for a few more minutes.

3. On the other hand if you find after cooling the syrup is way too thick,
make up another half recipe, add the 'hard' syrup in as well and boil it all
together for less than the required 45 minutes.

4. Do not throw away the discarded lemon slice. When I first got asked to an Indian restaurant with friends I was doing my hardest to get out of going. I thought Indian food would be so hot it would make my ears steam. How wrong I was. Of course you can have it hot if you wish but I have it mild and it is soooo good.

My husband and I visit a little restaurant that we like to go to occasionally and while we have our Butter Chicken or Chicken Korma, we like to drink a Mango Lassi. This drink is silky smooth and a real compliment to Indian food. I finally found a good recipe so want to share it with you. It would be nice on any occasion so do try it. I am so sure you will make it again and again.

MANGO LASSI

3 fresh ripe magoes, peeled, stoned and roughly chopped, or
300ml (1/2 pint) canned mango pulp
500ml (17 fl oz) natural yoghurt
250ml (8 fl oz) water
1-2 tablespoons caster sugar

1. Put the fresh mango, if using, into a food processor or blender and blend until smooth. Set aside.

2. Blend the yoghurt, water and sugar until smooth. Divide the mango pulp between 4 tall glasses and pour over the yoghurt mixture. Some of them seem rather hard work, using chemicals I have never heard of let alone had in my home!

BLOOD AND MEAT JUICE
Soak in cold water, then wash with warm soap and water. Never put into hot water until after cold soaking. A paste of raw starch and water applied to bloodstains on flannel, heavy woollens and blankets will help remove them; repeat 2 or 3 times if necessary.

CREAM, FAT AND CLEAR OILS
Sponge first with cold water, then wash with hot water and soap. Sponge unwashable materials with carbon-tetrachloride or petrol. Sponge from the ouside to the centre of the stain.

COCOA
Sponge with water solution of borax (1/2oz to 1/2 pint)and rinse; or treat as cream stain.

COFFEE AND TEA
As for cocoa, or hold stain over a basin and pour boiling water over the stain.

EGG
Sponge first with cold water, then wash in hot soap suds. Treat as a cream stain.

FRUIT JUICE
Treat with boiling water as for tea or coffee. Peach stains are more stubborn. If boiling water doesn't remove them, bleach with javelle water or oxalic acid.

GRASS
Rub with methylated spirits.

IODINE
Soak area in diluted ammonia.

IRON RUST
Use salt, lemon juice and sunlight; or, drop oxalic acid on stain, rinsing off as soon as the stain disappears (see recipe for oxalic acid below)

INK
Rub with lemon and soak in milk. Rinse in cold water, then wash.

INDELIBLE AND BALL POINT INK
Use methylated spirits. Test fabric first by applying a little on a seam.

NAIL VARNISH
Use acetone or the remover, then methylated spirits. Test fabric, as it cannot be used on synthetics.

MILDEW
Scrape off any deposit, then bleach with hydrogen peroxide. Use a very weak solution on coloured materials.

PAINT AND VARNISH
Sponge with white spirit, turpentine or carbon-tetrachloride. Then wash with soap and water.

SCORCH
Rub with dry borax and wash with soap and water. If the scorch is severe nothing can be done.

TAR AND BLACK GREASE
Scrape off any surplus, then sponge with oil of eucalyptus. Once all the grease is removed the stain will come out with soap and water.

PERSPIRATION
Use warm water, soap and ammonia. If possible dry in the sun.

RECIPE FOR OXALIC ACID
Dissolve 2oz (about 4 TB) oxalic acid crystals in 1 pint lukewarm water. Bottle and label carefully. This mixture is poisonous and must be carefully stored away from children. an easier way to obtain a solution is to boil 2 or 3 rhubarb leaves in water and use the solution to remove rust stains.

Grannies Meatloaf

Grannies Meatloaf (4-6 people)

Main ingredients:
500g mince
500g sausage meat
1C bread crumbs
1 onion
1 egg
1/4C water
1/4C milk
Salt and pepper
Curry powder if desired

Sauce:
1/2C water
1/4 tomato sauce
2 Tbsp Worcester sauce
2 Tbsp malt vinegar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 tsp coffee powder
30g butter
2-3 Tbsp lemon juice

1. Preheat oven to a moderate temperature and heavily grease a loaf tin.
2.In a large bowl combine the mince, sausage meat, bread crumbs, onion, salt and pepper, curry powder and egg.
3. Add milk and water and mix through thoroughly.
4. Shape in the loaf tin, then turn out into a baking dish. Make sure the quality of each ingredient is superb for best results.

Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 50 minutes
Ingredients:
3 eggs, beaten
1/4 cup sugar
1/8 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
2-1/2 cups whole milk (NOT skim)

Preparation:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In large bowl, mix together eggs, sugar, salt and vanilla until well blended. Add milk and mix with a wire whisk until smooth. Tastes wonderful.

INGREDIENTS
2 1/2 kgs cooking apples, peeled, cored and thinly sliced
2 cups sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground cloves
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
1/4 tsp salt

DIRECTIONS
1. Place apples in large slow cooker. in a bowl mix sugar, spices ad salt. Pour the mixture over the apples in the slow cooker and mix well.

2. Cover and cook on HIGH for one hour.

3. Reduce heat to LOW and cook for 9-11 hours, stirring occasionally, until mixture is thickened and dark brown.

4. Oncover and continue cooking on LOW for one hour. Stir with a whisk to increase smoothness if desired.

5. Spoon the mixture into sterile containers, cover and seal, or refrigerate, or freeze.

I did this overnight in my slow cooker so didn't bother to stir occasionally. I sterilised jam jars (in oven - not to hot to crack jars though) and put the metal lids (that have a little rubber on insides) from jam jars in some boiling water.
Using a folded tea towel to hold jar I spooned hot apple butter into the jar right up to rim, then carefull screwed on lid. As jars cool the lids will pop and go down. Do not push them down or they may not seal properly and therefore spoil.
Apple butter is wonderful for many things so try some and enjoy!

Sultana or Raisin Loaf

1 cup sultanas

1 Tablespoon butter

1/2 cup sugar

1 Tablespoon golden syrup

1/4 tsp salt

1 tsp Baking soda

1 cup boiling water

2 cups plain baking flour

1 1/2 tsp baking powder

Put sultanas, butter, syrup and salt in a bowl. Everything was lost!
He was stunned with disbelief, grief, and anger.
"GOD, how could you do this to me?" he cried.
Early the next day he was awakened by the sound of a ship that was approaching the island. It had come to rescue him.
"How did you know I was here?" asked the weary man of his rescuers.
"We saw your smoke signal," they replied.

Moral of the story:
It's easy to get discouraged when things are going bad, but we lose heart, because GOD is at work in our lives, even in the midst of pain, and suffering.
Remember that, the next time your little hut seems to be burning to the ground. It just may be a smoke signal that summons the grace of GOD..
You May Want To Consider Passing This On, Because You Never Know Who Feels Like Their Hut Is On Fire Today.

Author Unknown

Resurrection Sunday

<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5323664595308061282" style="DISPLAY: block; Grease a 15x10 inch jellyroll pan.
In a large bowl, combine the flour, quick cooking oats, brown sugar, and baking soda. Stir in the melted butter. Mix until crumbly. This is the crust. Press about 2/3 of this mixture into the prepared baking pan. Bake for 8 minutes in preheated oven.
In a small pan, over medium heat combine the caramel topping and the remaining 1/2 cup of flour. Stirring constantly, bring to a boil and cook for 3 minutes. This is the caramel filling.
Spread apple slices evenly over the baked crust. Then pour the caramel filling over the apple layer. Crumble the remaining crust mixture over the top of everything. Bake again for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown. Cool before cutting into bars.

Blog Rest

I am needing to take a break from blogging for a while. You know all we need are some simple natural items that we would easily find around home.

Air freshener: Boil orange peels with some spices (like cinnamon etc) in a pot on your stove top. The aroma is wonderful.

Soap Scum Remover: Apply baking soda to a damp cloth. If stubborn wipe again and spray with white vinegar.

Carpet Stains: Club Soda, just spray and blot (don't worry about it going flat)

Carpet Deoderiser: Sprinkle baking soda over carpet - leave half and hour then vacuum up.

Clogged Drains: Pour one cup of white vinegar, plus one cup of baking soda into the drain. He drilled a hole in the ice, sat on his bucket, put his fishing line in the water and eagerly waited for a fish to bite.

He was there for almost five hours without even a nibble when a young boy walked out, drilled a hole in the ice and sat on his bucket not far from the old man. It only took about one minute and BAM! A huge walleye bit his hook and the boy pulled in the fish.

The old man couldn't believe it and figured it was just a fluke. Yet, the boy put his fish line in again and within just two minutes he pulled in another huge walleye!

This went on and on until finally the old man couldn't stand it any more. He hadn't caught a fish all day. He went to the boy and said, "Boy, I've been here nearly all day without even a nibble. You have been here only a few minutes and have caught TEN huge fish! How do you do it?"

The boy said, "Oo af o rep ra rums rm."

"What," asked the old man?

Again the boy said, "Oo af o rep ra rums rm.”

Freezing and impatient the old man yelled "Look, I can't understand a word you are saying."

So, the boy took off his gloves, spit a clump of stuff into his hands and said, "You have to keep the worms warm!!"

Home made Foot Spa

On my other blog, Colourful Children, I was talking about losing my marbles :-)
Here's a wonderful idea for using your marbles when you find them.

Place a pile of the larger Tom Thumb marbles (smaller ones will do if you don't have any)in the bottom of a large flat plastic container (big enough to place your feet inside).

Fill with water to the temperature you like. Mix in some epsom salts and a drop or two of essential oil that you favour. Bring a nice soft fluffy towel for afterwards.

Place in front of a cosy chair. Make sure you have a good book and a cup of tea/coffee.

Place your tired achey feet in your homemade foot spa. As you relax just roll your feet over the marbles and feel the tension come out.

When finished place your feet on the fluffy towel and dry.
Finish off with giving your feet a rub with your favourite moisturiser and you're done!

ENJOY!! It's just wonderful!!

Washing Windows

While I was away we stayed with some friends who had asked some young teens to some jobs during school holidays to earn some pocket money. It is traditional to have Pavlova at Christmas but anytime of year is great using seasonal fruit available to garnish. Strawberries or kiwi fruit are often used as is passionfruit pulp. Grated chocolate on it's own is also nice. If you haven't tried this before please do, its gorgeous and please let me know what you think of it!

A standard pavlova recipe, that can be cooked in the round part of a spring cake pan (I line the oven tray and the inside of the round part of the spring pan ring with baking paper), or mounded onto a tray or made into a perfect round (see below).

Ingredients
1 tsp vanilla essence
4 egg whites (make sure NO yolk gets in and I do not use really fresh eggs - use at room temp))
1/4 tsp cream of tartar
1 cup caster sugar (ordinary sugar works fine too)
4 tsp cornflour (cornstarch)
2 tsp white vinegar (malt works ok too)

Method
1. Put the egg whites and cream of tartar into a clean bowl and beat until the mixture forms stiff peaks but is not dry.
2. Gradually beat in three quarters of the sugar, about 2 tablespoonfuls at a time, beating well after each addition. Fold in the remaining sugar. The mixture should be thick and glossy.
3. Sift in the cornflour and add the vinegar and vanilla essence. Beat on a low speed only to combine.
4. Pile the mixture on to a baking paper-lined tray and mould into a 16cm (6")circle, smoothing the top off.
5. Place in a 120°C oven for 1 1/2 hours and then turn off the oven and allow the pavlova to cool completely with the door closed.
6. Serve piled with whipped cream and seasonal fruits.

Easy guacamole

2 ripe avocados
2 cloves garlic, crushed or diced
2 medium tomatoes, diced
1/4 cup red onion, chopped fine
1 tsp. lemon juice
Dash cayenne pepper (optional)
Dash sea salt, to taste

Cut the avocados in half and remove the pits. Mash the avocados with a fork. If they are not very ripe, you will probably need to blend them in a food processor. You can also blend the garlic and tomatoes along with them, but I prefer a chunkier dip. When mashing the avocados by hand, I leave large chunks of avocado in the mix.

When you have the avocado, tomatoes, and garlic mixed, add in the lemon juice. In addition to adding to the flavor, it keeps the avocado from turning brown. Mix in the onions and spices to taste. You may want to play around with the amount of tomatoes used. Some people prefer a higher avocado-to-tomato ratio and vice versa.

Since avocado doesn't store well, it's best to make only as much as you're going to eat but if you do need to save it, squeeze some more lemon over the surface and wrap as tightly as you can with plastic wrap and keep in the fridge.

Somebody Said........

<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5243836788728167826" style="FLOAT: left; Most white rice varieties dry well and can be stored for upwards of 30 years when packaged properly. These steps will help you store rice that has been pre-dried.

Things You’ll Need:
Dry white rice
Storage containers (food grade plastic buckets with gasketed lids, foil pouches, canning jars with lids)
Dry ice (if buckets are used)
Impulse pouch sealer (if foil pouches are used)
Oxygen absorber packets

Step1

Prepare storage containers. Make sure all inner surfaces are clean and dry. If you are using canning jars or foil pouches, place one oxygen absorbing packet into each container. If using plastic buckets, place one ounce of dry ice per gallon capacity in the bottom of the bucket.

Step2

Fill containers with rice. Fill foil pouches to 80% of volume. Fill jars to 95% volume. Fill buckets to within one inch of the top (on top of the dry ice).

Step3

Seal containers. For foil pouches, use an impulse heat sealer. Make sure the seal is tight. A second seal can be applied if desired. For jars, make sure the gasket on the lid is in good condition. Close the jar tightly. For plastic buckets, place the lid on top but do not completely close it until the dry ice has dissipated (sublimed). When the bottom of the bucket begins to feel warmer, place the lid on tightly. If it begins to bulge after a few minutes, open slightly to release the pressure.

Step4

Store containers. All food storage should be placed in a cool, dark, and dry location preferably off the floor and away from rodents. Rubbermaid or similar totes are excellent for storing foil pouches.

<img style="float:left; Think about it. Sick people make
more dollars for the drug companies. A lot of innocent
people in the middle as even doctors and specialists are not always aware of
what is really happening.

You should never use a microwave for heating a baby's bottle - even though
it is quick and saves time.

Microwave cooking changed the nutrients so that changes took place in the
participants' blood; these were not healthy changes but were changes that
could cause deterioration in the human systems. May not see anything
immediately but may do over time.

Found this online

Ten Reasons to Throw out your Microwave Oven

From the conclusions of the Swiss, Russian and German scientific clinical
studies, we can no longer ignore the microwave oven sitting in our kitchens.
Based on this research, we will conclude this article with the following:

1). Continually eating food processed from a microwave oven causes long
term - permanent - brain damage by "shorting out" electrical impulses in the
brain [de-polarizing or de-magnetizing the brain tissue].

2). The human body cannot metabolize [break down] the unknown by-products
created in microwaved food.

3). Male and female hormone production is shut down and/or altered by
continually eating microwaved foods.

4). The effects of microwaved food by-products are residual [long term,
permanent] within the human body.

5). Minerals, vitamins, and nutrients of all microwaved food is reduced or
altered so that the human body gets little or no benefit, or the human body
absorbs altered compounds that cannot be broken down.

6). The minerals in vegetables are altered into cancerous free radicals when
cooked in microwave ovens.

7). Microwaved foods cause stomach and intestinal cancerous growths
[tumors]. This may explain the rapidly increased rate of colon cancer in
America .

8). The prolonged eating of microwaved foods causes cancerous cells to
increase in human blood.

9). Continual ingestion of microwaved food causes immune system deficiencies
through lymph gland and blood serum alterations.

10). Eating microwaved food causes loss of memory, concentration, emotional
instability, and a decrease of intelligence.

Have you tossed out your microwave oven yet? After you throw out your
microwave, you can use a toaster oven as a replacement. It works well for
most and is nearly as quick. The use of artificial microwave transmissions
for subliminal psychological control, a.k.a. "brainwashing", has also been
proven. We're attempting to obtain copies of the 1970's Russian research
documents and results written by Drs. Luria and Perov specifying their
clinical experiments in this area.
See here , Throw Out your Microwaves

Makes for scary reading.
I have a hard to get article here put out by The Journal of Natural Science
called
"Microwave Cooking" It's the Kiss of Death!!!..........and what's more, it's
a proven recipe for CANCER.

.........and that's just what is written on the cover!!

Soap Under Bottom Sheet

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_aLn3wK2EQU4/SLHMS5NGs8I/AAAAAAAABJc/isd0hlV46jw/s200/soap_under_the_sheets_for_rls_leg_cramps.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5238192466574095298" />

I had this idea sent to me by a friend and a bit sceptical read up on the internet and apparently this works!!
Do you suffer from restless/jumpy legs or leg cramps? Simply place a bar of soap (but not Dial or Dove for some reason - perhaps as these don't contain lye?)
Testimonies from lots of people online have confirmed this works. Don't know why but they do not have to take drug prescriptions for this anymore.
